LIVING WATER
Water is a necessity for survival. Even a roach can live only thirty days if his head is chopped off because he no longer has a mouth with which to drink water.
Jeremiah the prophet said, "O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water."
In John's book, Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit who would indwell all believers, comfort them, and be an intercessor for them before God. I needed that - someone going before God and saying, "Look Adonai, give her a break, she was having a bad hair day, maybe more like a couple."
I remembered as a child drinking water from a mountain spring. Icy cold. Had a wonderful refreshing taste. Totally unlike tap water. When I tasted water from the spring, even as a child I knew, "This is different. This is so good. This is the real thing."
I think what Jesus was trying to tell us is that Coke won't cut it. We need the real thing. Jesus is that One and only real thing.
